Navigating Canadian Marine Certification for Internationally Trained Officers is a practical professional-development course designed for deck and engineering officers who obtained their maritime qualifications and sea service outside Canada.
The Canadian certification process can be difficult to navigate, particularly when foreign Certificates of Competency, sea-service records, training certificates, and Transport Canada requirements all need to be considered together. This course helps participants understand how the system works and how to approach the process in a more organized and informed way.
Participants will learn about the main certification and recognition pathways, including Direct Examination, foreign-certificate recognition, document preparation, sea-service evidence, Transport Canada assessments, and common remaining requirements such as examinations, approved training, medical, radio, and MED requirements.
The course is highly practical. Participants will work with structured worksheets, document checklists, pathway exercises, and a Personal Certification Action Plan to help identify what they already have, what may be missing, what needs clarification, and what questions should be directed to Transport Canada.
Each participant also receives one individual review of their maritime documents with personalized professional feedback, helping them identify potential gaps, inconsistencies, or areas that may require further verification.
By the end of the course, participants should have a much clearer understanding of their Canadian certification pathway and a practical set of next steps to move forward.
Designed for internationally trained:
